AIMAN INAM NEW YORK: What researchers here have discovered is rare! Identical to the alarming Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), a widespread cold virus, in point of fact, diffuses among individuals via camels. There are four internationally common human corona viruses which, accompanied by rhinoviruses, are accountable for triggering frequent colds. Of which HcoV-229E originated from camels. Investigator Christian Drosten from the University Hospital of Bonn noted: “Our current study gives us a warning sign regarding the risk of a MERS pandemic – because MERS could perhaps do what HCoV-229E did.” MERS corona virus was discovered in humans back in 2012 for the first time. It wreaks stern respiratory tract infections that can even be deadly. Drosten further added: “In our MERS investigations we examined about 1,000 camels for corona viruses and were surprised to find pathogens that are related to HCoV-229E, the human common cold virus, in almost six percent of the cases.” Scientists have reported their findings in the paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
