Bollywood’s ‘Munna Bhai’ turns 57 today

MUMBAI: Sanjay Dutt (aka Sanjay Balraj Dutt) celebrated his 57th birthday in Mumbai with his wife Maanyata in a private ceremony. Indian film actor and producer was born on 29 July 1959 in a family of actors. His father Sunil Dutt and mother Nargis were famous Hindi cinema actors of their time. Sanjay made his acting debut in 1981 and acted in more than hundred Hindi films. In his 35-year film career, the Vaastav actor has garnered two Filmfare Awards, two IIFA Awards, two Bollywood Movie Awards, three Screen Awards, three Stardust Awards, a Global Indian Film Award and, a Bengal Film Journalist’s Association Award as well as played the lead in four national award winning films. The 57-year-old Bollywood actor has had a ‘Rocky’ life with several stints behind bars, drug abuse and some cherished moments on personal and professional fronts. After his mother’s death in 1981, shortly before his debut film’s premiere, Dutt became a drug addict and was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act in April 1993, due to continuous use of drugs and illegal arms possession. The terrorism charges were dropped, but he was convicted of illegal possession of arms. After serving his sentence with good behaviour and conduct, Munna Bhai was released
