China ready to work with India on fighting terror: says Indian President

BEIJING: Indian President Pranab Mukherjee said on Friday that China is ready to enhance cooperation with India on combating the menace of terrorism. According to a statement issued here by the Indian Foreign Office, Mukherjee expressed the hope that China will play a “positive and facilitative role” in ensuring a predictable environment for India in its pursuit of the civil nuclear programme in bridging the huge power deficit the country faces. Indian President was on a four-day official visit to India, where he met the top Chinese leadership including President Xi Jinping and discussed trade ties and security matters between both countries. While returning to India, the President, in his interaction with the media on board Air India, said: “Terrorism was an important topic which I covered in my meetings.” “India has been a victim of terrorism for around three and a half decades. There is no good terrorist or bad terrorist. Terrorism respects neither ideology nor geographical boundaries. Wanton destruction is its only aim.” The President further said that as close neighbours, India and China should work together. Chinese leadership conveyed their willingness to enhance cooperation, including in the UN.
