CALIFORNIA: Facebook is all set to launch a feature which will encrypt messages and conversations and make them private so only the ‘authorized user’ could open and read them. The Secret Conversation feature encrypts messages, which can be unlocked only by the sender and receiver. Conversations secured by end-to-end conversations cannot be intercepted by Facebook or even government agencies. “Facebook’s Secret Conversation feature works somewhat similar to WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption,” said a spokesperson adding that this feature is slightly more advanced as it gives users freedom to decide which conversation they want to encrypt. With the feature, the Messenger app will get a toggle in each conversation. To encrypt a chat, you need to tap on the information icon inside a conversation and select ‘Secret Conversation’. You can also select a time after which your messages will disappear. The company said that the feature is not enabled by default and therefore, the user may find two threads with the same person, one is encrypted and other is not. “This happens when you use Messenger on multiple devices.
