‘Mullah Mansour is dead’ confirms Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s special aide on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz on Thursday confirmed the death of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour. “Mullah Mansour was killed in Saturday’s drone strike in Baluchistan province,” Aziz said while addressing a press briefing in Islamabad. However, he said, the reports of his burial are totally fake and the body of Taliban leader has not been handed over to anyone. Terming the US strike as the violation of UN charter, Sartaj Aziz said that the attack has affected Pakistan’s effort for Afghan peace process and made it more complicated. Earlier, Afghan Taliban supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed by multiple US drone strikes carried out at 10am GMT on last Sunday (May 22, 2016) in the southwest of the town of Ahmad Wal that incidentally happens to be just over the border into Pakistan. According to media reports, Mansour was travelling from Iran’s Kabul province to Balochistan in a Toyota corolla when he was attacked. However, Iranian authorities denied reports that Taliban’s executed leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was in Afghanistan before he entered Pakistan.  Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber-Ansari said that Mullah Mansour did not enter Pakistan from the Islamic Republic of Iran
