ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Monday that National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has verified over twenty million cards. Addressing a news briefing in Islamabad on Monday, he said verification process of Computerized National Identity Cards has been successful so far and two point six million SMS have been received to NADRA for verification of family members while NADRA also sent one point eight million SMS to people for this purpose during fifteen days. Nisar said that those holding fake NIC’s will have to face 14 years imprisonment. “Verification process will continue to purge aliens and illegal people holding Pakistani NIC’s,” he said adding that at least four foreigners informed NADRA about their fake NIC and surrendered their Pakistani citizenship. The interior minister said one hundred thousand CNICs have been blocked from 2013 to 2016 and over two thousand passports were cancelled during this period. Chaudhry Nisar further said that one million SIMs also verified with the cooperation of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
