SANA MAHMOOD KARACHI: Those who have studied in the ‘Matric System’ here must have read a couple of literary pieces by Sajjad Haider Yaldram, one of the pioneers of Urdu short story writing. His daughter Quartul Ain Haider too contributed extensively as an academic, a journalist, a novelist and a short story (afsana) writer. She was born in Aligarh UP, had her schooling in Delhi from Indraprastha College and later got admission at University of Lucknow from where she graduated. Quratul Ain Haider opted to go to Pakistan at the time of partition but in 1960 moved back to what is presently called India. A confirmed bachelor, Quratul Ain also lived in England for some time. She died on August 21, 2007 in Noida (India) at the age of 80. Government of India has bestowed Jnanpith Award upon her.
