ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League Chairman Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed on Tuesday filed a disqualification reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Sheikh Rasheed filed the disqualification reference at the Speaker’s Office. “Nawaz Sharif is not eligible to become the prime minister under the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution, stated AML chief in the reference adding that the disqualification reference against Nawaz Sharif consisted of 162 pages. Sheikh Rasheed said that he had made the disclosures of the Panama Papers the basis of the disqualification reference. “I have requested the Speaker to play his constitutional role with impartiality,” he said. According to the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution, a person has to be Sadiq and Ameen (honest and truthful) in order to become the prime minister of the country. Earlier on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had filed another reference in National Assembly to seek disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Shireen Mazari and other lawmakers of PTI had submitted a reference comprising of 200 pages to National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. PTI had filed a reference in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on June 24 as well to seek disqualification of the prime minister.
